The Friends of Wash Common Library was set up in 2017 as a response to the threatened closure of the library by West Berkshire Council. After a campaign lasting nearly two years the Friends, with support from Newbury Town Council, re-opened the library as a Community library. FoWCL fund and manage the library, it Is completely independent of WBLS and is run entirely by volunteers.
