CharityScore UK
Independent charity transparency ratings for England & Wales
About CharityScore UK
CharityScore UK is an independent charity transparency service covering every registered charity in England and Wales. We process official Charity Commission data and apply a consistent, publicly documented scoring methodology to give every charity a trust score out of 100 — helping donors make informed decisions quickly, without having to wade through regulatory filings themselves.
Each charity is assessed across five criteria: trustee governance, financial health, public transparency, filing history, and regulatory standing. Where our analysis finds specific concerns — such as late filings, Commission inquiries, or spending anomalies — these are flagged individually on the charity's profile page so donors can see exactly what the issue is.
Frequently asked questions
How are charity scores calculated?
Scores are calculated from official Charity Commission data across five categories: trustee governance (25 pts), financial health (30 pts), public transparency (10 pts), filing history (30 pts), and regulatory standing (10 pts). The full methodology is documented on our How It Works page.
Where does the data come from?
All data is sourced from the Charity Commission for England and Wales's public data extract — the same data the regulator publishes openly for anyone to access. We do not modify the underlying data; we apply scoring on top of it.
What does a Platinum rating mean?
Platinum (85–100) means the charity has excellent governance, transparent finances, a clean regulatory history, and a long filing track record. It's our highest rating and indicates a charity that meets the strongest transparency standards based on available public data.
My charity's information is wrong. What should I do?
Contact us at charity@charityscore.co.uk with your registration number and details of the error. All data reflects official Charity Commission records — if the underlying data is wrong, we'll explain how to update it with the regulator. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
Is CharityScore UK affiliated with the Charity Commission?
No. CharityScore UK is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or any government body.
