The principal activity is the relief of persons suffering from Alzheimer's disease, related disorders and other forms of dementia by providing support or subsidising facilities for the care and accommodation of such persons. At present, the Charity is principally engaged in running Vale House, a specialist dementia care facility based in Littlemore, Oxford .

We work with small groups of vulnerable adults, including learning disabled, autistic, ex-offenders and those with mental health problems. Young at Heart offers help and support to families of babies and children receiving treatment for a cardiac condition at the Birmingham Children's Hospital. We provide ward visits for families and work with the Heart Unit at the Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Our specialised services offer prevention and guidance in schools and youth provisions in the following: Substance misuse, sexual health, safer relationships

The current activities are to further public education in botany,horticulture and zoology and provide facilities for research. In addition the charity maintains and operates the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses for the above purpose and for the recreation of the public.
