The principal activity of the Charity is that of the provision of sheltered homes for the elderly. This is currently achieved by allowing the Charity's Trustee - the Abbeyfield Wessex Society Ltd, itself a charity - the free use of our property to house elderly residents.

The charity provides a befriending scheme where by volunteers visit housebound and lonely isolated elderly people providing support and help for the elderly in their homes. The charity also provides education in African and Caribbean culture to young children and people of African and Caribbean origin in and around the London Borough of Newham.

The charity has no capital & no income and for that reasons does not have a bank account. The block of land managed by the charity requires substantial works in terms of scrub clearance, hedge renovation, refencing; this would need many thousands of pounds (that are just not available from the local community).

We support disadvantaged families and children who would benefit from an extension of statutory services provided by schools in Leicester by helping to offer facilities beyond the normal school day. We aim to help parents raise expectations to support childrenÔÇÖs aspirations, identify and remove barriers to learning and achievement and promote independence amongst children and young people.

Working with disadvantaged people and groups providing support through food provision, self-development opportunities, counselling, advocacy, basic and social skills training, signposting to other agencies, practical skills training and voluntary work experience.
